Surfachem are proud of this years achievements with supporting Universities both locally and further afield to increase the employability and graduate employment outcomes of students and graduates from scientific and technology degrees. We are particularly proud of our participation in the Santander part funded Internship for students and graduates as coordinated by several Universities and most successfully for us with the University of Huddersfield.
By working with this local University we were able to offer a chemistry undergraduate, an Internship over the Summer of 2015 working within our Technical department and this opportunity led to an offer of a year in industry as part of their course at our Lab at the 3M Buckley Innovation Centre where they are currently working with our Technical Development Chemist until July 2016. We believe their experiences they are gaining working at Surfachem will make a significant contribution to their employability upon graduation.
To celebrate our participation and the success of the Santander sponsorship programme, Surfachem was invited to attend an Internship Celebration event at the University of Huddersfield last month. The Vice Chancellor at the University alongside our Internship Coordinator and senior managers of Santander, presented our student and other successful students who had completed an Internship through the University with a certificate to honour their accomplishments.
But our success does not stop there -
Another Chemistry student joined Surfachem earlier this year also as an Intern from the University of Huddersfield. They were working in the Technical department, assisting with our data cleansing. The student stated that their Internship experience at Surfachem gave then invaluable experience of working within an office environment and within a team - they found the 12 week placement really enjoyable and very positive.
Surfachem is also currently providing a graduate from the University of Huddersfield in Medical genetics, an Internship experience through the University of Huddersfield and Santander in our Technical department supporting a product data cleansing project.
A recent Biology graduate from the University of Nottingham is now working in our Sales department - Surfachem has been working with this University and Santander again to secure funding as part of their graduate scheme so that they can extend their experience within our business on an additional, minimum, 12 week placement.
We also placed a Physics graduate from the University of Liverpool in our Lab over the summer where they gained a wealth of experience carrying out project work in application and formulation chemistry.
And it's not just Science undergraduates and graduates Surfachem has supported with Internships as our new IT assistant is an IT graduate from Leeds Beckitts University who has secured themselves a full time role supporting our new ERP and CRM systems.
So you can see why Surfachem is so proud of its achievements with supporting STEM in industry (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and helping 2M Holdings to achieve its goal of 'ensuring young people at each stage of early adulthood have access to a career in Science and are inspired to join our industry'.
